Unified design language across platforms
As Roku scaled from startup to public company with 5 distinct business units, design inconsistency was creating user confusion and slowing development. Roku grew fast. Five business units, each with product teams moving independently, each solving similar problems in slightly different ways. Buttons looked different across surfaces. Typography felt inconsistent. Color usage drifted. The lack of system wasn't creating freedom, it was creating friction.
